I used to think Manzanillo was the poor step sister to Puerto Vallarta and Zihuatanejo – that was before I visited. It is much smaller than the aforementioned resort towns, not having as many resorts and hotels. And much smaller beaches being made up of a lot of crescent bays. The two major hotels in Manzanillo are the Barcelo Karmina Palace, a nice 4-star property where we stayed. The other...keep reading

I just returned from an exciting new boutique property in Mexico ~ Capella Ixtapa! It’s a divine piece of heaven so close to home yet feels so completely far away. With only 59 rooms, beautifully cantilevered, cliff side, above the dramatic Pacific Ocean, I felt as though I had magically been transported to the Amalfi Coast without having had to fly as many hours.
Capella Ixtapa is earthy, exotic and wildly...keep reading

Club Med Ixtapa Pacific beckons with a spectacular beach, gorgeous sunsets and loads of fun activities; and it has been beautifully renovated and upgraded, too. The resort looks more like a 5 star hotel. The rooms and suites are very spacious and nicely appointed with all sorts of amenities ( many with robes, slippers, thick towels, soft linens, very cheerful and modern furniture). There was daily turndown...keep reading

Just spent 3 fabulous days at the new Capella Pedregal in Cabo San Lucas! What a cool hideaway this is! The property officially opened last Monday and is quite special. It’s close to the tip of Baja on the Pacific side in a dramatically different setting accessible only by private tunnel lit by torches and chandeliers at night. At the end of the tunnel is a large fire pit in the center of the port...keep reading

I just returned from a quick trip to Cancun to visit this signature resort that opened in spring, 2009. Banyan Tree is an Asian luxury hotel brand that opened it’s first resort here in the peak of the economic downturn and just before the H1N1 flu scare.
Banyan Tree Mayakoba offers 132 spacious private villas, each with its own pool large enough to swim laps in. Each gated villa has a large outdoor private...keep reading

What a great trip!!
Everything was perfect, like clockwork.
The resort was the Best!! The private beach was beautiful, the water warm and friendly, but with the right wave action for boogie boards and swimming. The staff was so outgoing and friendly, from the head of Village, Jean-Marc, to the bartenders and group leaders, getting to know us all by name and we to them. We chatted with the head chef, John Black,...keep reading

Not surprisingly, there’s been an overabundance of negative media coverage these past few weeks about the H1N1 virus in Mexico. But do travelers have this in proper perspective?
Mexico’s Health Minister reports that o the 159 deaths reported during the flu outbrak, only 16 were confirmed to be associated with the swine flu. (mexico City alone has a population of over 26 million people. In the...keep reading

There are several upscale resorts that have opened up in Mayakoba, a resort development about a half-hour’s drive south of Cancun on the Mexico’s Riviera Maya coast. There’s also been quite a bit of negative press about travel to Mexico. This comment was sent to us by our clients currently there:
“We are so spoiled this is absolutely the best resort we’ve stayed in. Thanks so much....keep reading

I had the opportunity and pleasure to attend a Starwood/Luxury Advisory Board Meeting at the St Regis Punta Mita earlier this week.
Located right next door to the now 10 year old and very sucessful Four Seasons, both hotels share the same golf course. Transfer time from Puerto Vallarta is about 45 minutes, a prearranged transfer is mandatory. There are hundreds of time share solicitors in the PVR arrival...keep reading

The new Aqua is located in the Hotel Zone of Cancun. La Isla’s boutique shops are across the street. As guests arrive they are welcomed by the beautiful scent of grapefruit, citrus and therapeutic oils, which they call “ENERGY” a warm hand massage, chilled hand towel and a cold beverage.
There are 371 guestrooms which all have views of the ocean. The room has a warm palette, browns and beiges complimenting...keep reading
