I just returned from an exciting new boutique property in Mexico ~ Capella Ixtapa! It’s a divine piece of heaven so close to home yet feels so completely far away. With only 59 rooms, beautifully cantilevered, cliff side, above the dramatic Pacific Ocean, I felt as though I had magically been transported to the Amalfi Coast without having had to fly as many hours.

Club Med Ixtapa Pacific beckons with a spectacular beach, gorgeous sunsets and loads of fun activities; and it has been beautifully renovated and upgraded, too. The resort looks more like a 5 star hotel. The rooms and suites are very spacious and nicely appointed with all sorts of amenities ( many with robes, slippers, thick towels, soft linens, very cheerful and modern furniture). Not surprisingly, there’s been an overabundance of negative media coverage these past few weeks about the H1N1 virus in Mexico. But do travelers have this in proper perspective?

I had the opportunity and pleasure to attend a Starwood/Luxury Advisory Board Meeting at the St Regis Punta Mita earlier this week.
Located right next door to the now 10 year old and very sucessful Four Seasons, both hotels share the same golf course. Transfer time from Puerto Vallarta is about 45 minutes, a prearranged transfer is mandatory. There are hundreds of time share solicitors in the PVR arrival...keep reading

If you are looking for an alternative to Europe with its high prices and long flights, Colonial Mexico fits the bill. After a 3 1/2 nonstop flight from LA on Mexicana Airlines you are in Guadalajara, the second largest city in Mexico. Other cities I visited were Lagos de Moreno, San Miguel de Allende and Patzcuaro.
